Yesterday, I walked round all the shops on the Oxford street, taking a quick peek at their denim section, and if I really liked something I went in to try it on… I am usually a shop-a-holic, and at high street prices, I was willing to purchase, one, two maybe, new pairs of jeans… After all, we need to go wide legged and lighter hued for the summer right?
But here’s the problem, I am tall, 178cm and around a UK size 6… NO shops made jeans that were long enough. I have friends who are the same height as me, but happen to easily pull off ‘long’ jeans from shops, the average length of this being (usually 34 inches in most shops), maybe they have shorter legs, I really don’t know! Ultimately, I would like to be able to wear heels, and not have any issues related to ‘ankle skimming’, I would like to find jeans that are 36 inch inseam, in London. I have managed to find a few, I even have a pair of Notifys that are 38 inch, but like the bulk of my trousers and denim purchases, I have had to buy them online.
I spoke to a few other tall women about this issue, and I was led to the premium brands I know already, when I asked about the high street, Topshop and Zara were mentioned. I did pop in to both, Zara, was not long enough, and Topshop Long came in 36 inch inseam, but also started at a size 8! Not good.
This is why I have decided to write this post, as a little guide to other tall women who have difficulties finding jeans that are long enough. Yes you could do a google search, but you will find that those jeans that pop up on those specially for tall women sites tend to be ugly, very ugly, only one website, Tall Couture, do not feature ugly jeans, and they use international checkout to ship internationally, and do you really want to wait a month? I don’t.
Below, ordered by price range (in dollars) are a few of the best brands, and places where you can buy them, that do ship internationally (and will arrive quickly), and are guaranteed to have at a least 36″ inseam.
CHEAP (less than $100):
*Delias makes a wide range of jeans with a 36 - 37 inch inseam, they are all priced at less than $40 each, add international shipping… It will still come up to about $60.
*Lucky Brand Jeans, are the quintessential American favourite! They come in a variety of shades, and have very long inseams… Perfect for your every day and every night pair, and through they have a large variety of available options, all these options tend to differ simply in leg opening and rise, ultimately they come in two shapes, the ’slim’ and the ‘bootcut’ they are the classics that will never go out of fashion.
AVERAGE (between $100 - $170):
*Joes Jeans, check out the Rocker Style, which has a long and lean silhouette (with a kick flare) and channels Mick Jagger, and of course the Twiggy Style, a slim fit named after one of the most famous supermodels of them all.
*Paper Denim and Cloth, check out the Zig style… It is available at Revolve.
*Ranahan jeans, I don’t care that this is a favourite brand amongst the LA it girls, we just love their long lengths and flattering washes.
EXPENSIVE (more than $170):
*Fidelity Denim are the hot new brand in town, their jeans are sleek, sexy and they feature all the quality hand made sewing methods of Japanese denim. They ONLY make longer lengths, and they are my new favourite brand!
*DVB Jeans, by Victoria Beckham come in longer lengths as well… This was a bit shocking as she’s tiny, but hey! Even I have to admit that they are very flattering.
*Hudson Jeans, the original London jeans, come in ‘a variety of shades and shapes of their supermodel style’ which are, made very long.
*Rock and Republic jeans, the original rock chick premium brand. My - bum around - jeans are Rock and Republic, and my dressy jeans are also Rock and Republic, they were the first high end brand that allowed me to wear heels!
*Notify a french brand that promises the most flattering jeans, cut to fit real fashonistas. They make special trouser like jeans, and their finishing and detailing is absolutely perfect. If you have to buy one premium label, make it Notify!
